July 2008 Calendar
PREVIEW
It wasn’t enough for the Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA) when on Feb. 6, 2008, over 3,000 people (the largest
public hearing crowd in Coastal Commission history), including surfers, media celebrities, politicians, surf industry CEOs, surf-moms, biologists, bird lovers, beach lovers, park lovers, just lovers, grommets, civil rights groups and Native Americans showed up to say “No way!” to its insane proposal to extend the 241 Toll Road through some of California’s most environmentally precious and beautiful land in San Onofre State Park near San Clemente. Not to mention the 25,000 letters sent to the Commission in opposition.
The TCA is appealing to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, which is the only agency that can overrule the Coastal Commission’s decision, which was not only based on public opposition but tons of solid scientific evidence of the harm on species and environment that would be caused by the toll road. The Secretary has the discretion to rule based on consistency with Federal policy and, you guessed it (the ace-in-the-hole, and you know whose hole!), national security.
Hmm…George W. Bush, 9/11, Rohrabacher, election time…How do you think the Secretary will rule? Find out at the public hearing that the TCA didn’t want to you to have, on July 24 or July 25, exact date and times still to be determined.
Location UCI Bren Center in Irvine…really close to those who support the toll road.

****PEACE AND DIGNITY JOURNEYS 2008****
An intercontinental and intertribal spiritual run is approaching Orange County!
The Peace and Dignity Journeys is a 6 month-long traveling ceremony that first began in 1992. It is based on a vision shared by Indigenous elders of various nations in the Americas, the prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor.
The runners of the North began running in May from Eklutna, Alaska and will be arriving to Orange County THIS SUNDAY JULY 20th.
Please join us for a community feast as we welcome the runners at Independencia Community Center in West Anaheim. The address to the place is: 10841 Garza Ave., Anaheim 92804. The feast will begin at 5:30pm on Sunday. Please bring a Dish!!
Thank you.
