To state that "President Eisenhower signed a bill that officially adopted the words “In God We Trust” as the national motto. The action was part of a nationwide movement, previously featuring the political witch hunts of Sen. Joseph McCarthy, to stifle leftists and liberals by labeling them as subversives" is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
What did Joseph McCarthy's activities have to do with Ike's putting "In God we trust" on coins and "under God" in the pledge of allegiance? - Nothing!
This is a thinly veiled attempt to associate the In God We Trust folks with an infamous and in this case irrelevant political figure.
In my view HB City Council and your otherwise pretty good paper have fatter fish to fry.
